A veteran of the US and Asian real estate markets with 17 years of sales and marketing experience, Andrew Gates is a Certified Negotiation Expert, a licensed real estate broker in New York, Connecticut & Massachusetts, and a licensed estate agent in Hong Kong.

Andrew entered the brokerage business in early 2001, working for Elyse Harney Real Estate, the leading boutique agency in northwestern Connecticut. Recruited by Sotheby's International Realty in 2004 to open its first legacy office in Northern Litchfield County, Andrew went on to become the #1 listing and selling broker for that office.

In 2010, Andrew was recognized as the #4 broker among the more than 70 agents of Litchfield Hills Sotheby’s International Realty; and one of the top 30 brokers by volume among the more than 1,100 agents in the 30 office system of William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty.

Andrew has handled numerous million-dollar plus luxury residential sales as well as record-breaking land and commercial transactions in Litchfield, Dutchess, Columbia and Berkshire counties. On the rental side, he put together a private transaction on behalf of a prominent South American family which stands as the highest rental price ever attained in the region.

In 2012 - Andrew relocated to Hong Kong, where he joined Hong Kong Sotheby's International Realty as International Consultant. Following his first sale in Hong Kong, Andrew became the organization's first broker to have closed transactions in multiple US states as well as a foreign territory.

During his tenure in Hong Kong, Andrew served Sotheby's International Realty's expansion in the region by developing a unique agent-marketing platform for all North American, Asia Pacific and EMEA brokers during Sotheby's 2013 spring sales. He acted as lead client liaison to Sotheby's VIP Asian clients for North American real estate and ran the Vietnam Desk, an alliance between Hong Kong and Vietnam Sotheby's International Realty and Indochina Capital, the leading private equity firm in Southeast Asia.

Following his time in Hong Kong, Andrew was recruited by the executive management team to join Sotheby’s International Realty’s flagship Upper East Side office, and was tapped by New York’s leading international broker to become the Head of the Asia Desk. He served on the CEO’s hand-picked team of brokers working on new development sales and marketing strategies for the ultra-high net worth Asian market.

In early 2014, Andrew elected to return to one of his true passions: the sale of weekend retreats and luxury country properties in the Hudson Valley, Berkshires, and Northwestern CT. He is proud to now be a part of the venerable Houlihan Lawrence Company, the regional and global leader in the sale and marketing of luxury country properties.

Andrew is the go to source within the brokerage community for identifying the latest trends on Asian demand for North American luxury real estate and has been sought out for comment by the Wall Street Journal (Asia edition) and the South China Morning Post.

Andrew is a graduate of Indian Mountain, the Salisbury School and Fordham University. He has traveled widely in Africa, Europe, the Americas and Asia Pacific. He is the co–founder of the Hudson Valley’s beloved Little Gates & Co. Wine Merchants.
